Performed on the Oneppo Chamber Music Series at the Yale School of Music's Morse Recital Hall, this unique arrangement of Shostakovich's impressive 8th string quartet sets the work for wind quintet with the addition of alto flute and english horn to fully realize the dark and complex timbres of the composer's unmistakable sound world.
Originally composed by Alban Berg for Soprano and Piano in 1907, these songs are known for their orchestrated versions arranged by the composer later in his career. This arrangement, done by Scott Leger, is set for horn and piano, utilizing the high tessitura of the French horn to mimic the vocality of the original setting.
